We After much soul searching (and a long pause while Chris went off and became a parent) we have ditched the recordings. The feel of the tracks wasn’t right and didn’t represent the tight unit we have become.

A couple of days ago we recorded a whole batch of (we believe) are superiod rhythm tracks at Dans drum room, and we will be adding to these in the next few weeks.

We reworked more guitar parts (courtesy of a LINE-6 POD this time and Merricks Aria). Redid main vocal and added backing vocals to ‘Spaceboy’.

We spent the day recording more guitar parts (again courtesy of a vox tonelab, but using Garys variax for a Gibson sound rather than his tele), redid some vocals, and added backing vocals to ‘Kerb dogs’ and ‘Beautiful mind’

We recorded Garys lead parts last night .. but ended up using his tele into a Vox tonelab box DI’ed into the MRS1608 .. now to just make sense of it all.

We now have acoustic guitar and vocal takes for the 3 tracks sitting on a Hard drive waiting for sorting out. Next .. lead guitar courtesy of a Variax.

Through the wonders of broadband, Monkeys audio, and a CDR in the post we now have rhythm guitar parts to beautiful mind in place. Next up is to capture some vocals from Dave before he heads off to foreign parts (again !).,

The drums tracks have now had a first tidy up. Some gating using VST dynamics has tidied the toms, and I’ve got a range of kick drum replacements to play with.

I’ve recorded a first pass bass track for everything, and I’ll pass all the tracks on to Merrick for some guitar additions. (Toast that broadband !!)

Work has at last started on some new recordings with the new line-up. Yesterday we lugged some recording kit down to ‘the bigger picture’ studios, and put down 7 drum tracks + guide for 3 previously unrecorded songs .. ‘Kerb Dogs’, ‘Spaceboy’ and ‘Beautiful Mind’. Now the work begins....

For the geeky, we are recording to ZOOM MRS1608 16-track digital unit, and laid down stereo overheads (pair of Takstar PCM6100 condensers), hi-hat (Yoga EM-930 condenser), snare (SM57), Kick (Radioshack PZM), and flying Tom + floor tom (a couple of clip-on dynamics). The flying tom track rings rather horribly, as the whole flying tom was being shaken by the kick and snare too much, so we’ll have to try some gating on that.
